Average mature adult or average young adult? The difference you may find startling...

From my experience:
Young adult is 100-300 checking and 1-5k savings.
Mature adult is 1k-5k checking; 10-25k short term savings; and 50k plus in long term savings (not counting equity or material possessions)

Average is lower than you'd expect because you include the whole country and the gambit of ages ranging from 16-100. Poor is not something you are confused about, btw... if you are poor you don't have to ask about it, it's something you know.
And a BMW is not the status symbol it once was. They are as common as VWs Tho kudos on your legally saving so much at a young age. How much did your parents have to do with it?

Personally, I think "poor" is relative. I'm living from paycheck to paycheck, but I have food on my table and a roof over my head, so I don't think I'm "poor". I really would like some more cash to pay off some debts quicker, but so far, I'm doing well I think.

Nothing. I bought the BMW cause I liked it and it olny cost me 35K with 2,00 miles on it. As for my parents helping me get the money the only thing they did is register the account I use to trade with in their name as if your under 18 you can't have your own online trading account it has to be through your parents. And the inveestment capital came from lawn mowing. Rich people pay way to much to mow their lawns at $100+ for an hour of work the capital wasn't to hard to get. Once I hit 10K I started playing the market. That was 3 years ago. I have made about 40K in the market so far and got the rest mowing lawns. And I'm about to open my own business. (it opens August 1)

hahaha i wish i had near that in the bank, mine is more like
$30 in checking
$0 in savings
i am 24 now, i drank myself into the hospital at 19, came out of the coma with diabeties, so i pay
$180 a month for insulin
$200 a month for rent
$90 a month for car insurance
i make about $800 a month BEFORE i got my hours cut at work, so that leaves $330 a month for food, cigarettes, gas, and whatever nonsense my woman talks me into buying, so what is the next category BELOW poor, cause i believe that is where i am......

I came home to find a letter from my bank in my mailbox. My debit card information was on that list that got hacked/compromised/whatever a couple weeks ago. Anyone wanna steal my identity?

Are you rich?
Seriously tho - that sucks. Hope that doesn't turn out to be the case for you (ID theft).
I'm so paranoid about that sort of stuff...not just theft but computer record mix-ups etc. Gah.
